Counselling

I moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2011 after completing my Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto. Prior to that, I attended Carleton University on a full academic scholarship for my BA in Psychology. I have been in good standing as a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) for 13 years. I really enjoy working with pre-teens, teens and young adults, and have been primarily focused on that age group, working at the Sechelt Hospital and in all of the high schools on the Sunshine Coast for 10 years. Many years of working in a hospital setting has given me additional knowledge of community resources, clinical diagnoses, medications, and how to help clients and their families navigate the psychiatry system, if needed. I taught Drug Education for the school district here for many years and am well versed in substance use and addictions counselling. I also taught stress reduction and mindfulness classes at the hospital and have done many additional trainings in this area. I us a multi-modality approach, tailoring therapy to each client’s preferences. I believe counselling should be engaging and enjoyable, and that a comfortable trusting therapeutic relationship is important to any change work. I’ll go at your pace, listen when you need me to listen, offer suggestions when you might want some, and work through life’s challenges and towards your goals in a collaborative way. I believe in always creating a welcoming, non-judgemental, friendly environment. I find neuropsychology really interesting and am happy to share information about the brain, how the brain changes over adolescence, neurotransmitters, emotions, the science of behaviour modification, science of addiction, etc. if clients find that helpful. I have experience working with many different presenting issues and welcome all clients. Please see ‘Services’ tab of my website for more information on what I specialize in treating.

I spend a lot of my free time riding my horse, and I’m on the board of directors for the Sunshine Coast Equestrian Club. I’ve travelled to over 40 countries and am fascinated by other cultures and ways to wellness. I live on a farm in Gibsons with my husband and 3-year-old daughter.
